Fall 2010 Trends
My 10 Fav Fall Trends

We’re still in the midst of summer battling record high temperatures. I must say I love it! It’s nothing like the warm air across my back and face. (SIGH) But as much as my body loves the summer heat, my personal style thrives in the cool crisp air of the fall. At the first sign of the fall collections walking off the runways and on to shelves and racks, I get pretty excited.

Let the count down to fall shopping begin!

Aren’t you just as excited? Check out my favorite Fall 2010 must have trends.

(L to R: Moschino, Diane von Furstenberg, Dries van Noten, Banana Republic)

Step into the wild life and let your inner kitten purr. Fashion lovers all over are roaring over leopard and cheetah prints. The usually sexy, bold spots of jungle cats have taken on new forms in more understated silhouettes, completely making their marks all over for Fall 2010.

Although I’m typically not drawn to animal prints, there are a few pieces I can say I’m wild about.

Fab Chick Tip: Stay away from wearing too much animal prints at one time. It’s best to keep you animalistic item to a minimum with one per look.

(L to R: Jill Stuart, L.A.M.B., Fendi, Moschino Cheap & Chic)

This fall, command respect with the ever so popular military inspired trend. This trend will be making its way from our recent spring must haves right onto our fall lists. While we let go of cargo shorts, we’ll transition into fall with the skinny cargo pant that continues to grab attention, J Brand Houlihan anyone.

As the weather gets colder, look for outwear to be heavily influenced by this military trend. We’ll see strategic pocket placement and added belting for a utilitarian inspired look.

(L to R: Just Cavalli, Burburry Prorsum, ADAM, Helmut Lang)

Sherling coats have come along way from the bulky aviator bomber styles we’re use to seeing. This coat has gotten more stylish and femininie with cropped and streamlined silhouettes. Channel you’re inner Amelia Earhart this fall in this fab sherling trend.

(L to R: Fendi, Dsquard, Derek Lam, Versace)

Taking cues from last year’s fur vest phenomenon, a la Rachel Zoe, this fall 2010 we will be seeing these hairy situations returning for yet another season. Whether 'faux real or fur fake', prepare to revisit the trend not only in vests, but coats, shoes and accessories.

Fab Chick Tip: If you are wearing fur as outwear, refrain from accessorizing with fur accessories. Too much can be overkill, dare I say road kill?

(L to R: Akris, Chloe, Michael Kors, Cynthia Steffe)

This past spring we’ve been all about neutral tones, beige being a prominent hue. This fall, we continue with neutral shades but warming it up just a bit with like camel. Typically this isn’t a shade I personally gravitate to, but, the sophistication of the camel looks that graced the fall 2010 runways were spot on. I loved it.

(L to R: Nanette Lepore, Tracy Reese, No. 21, Nina Ricci)

Show your romantic side this fall in victorian inspired lace. If a full on lace item is too sexy for you, opt for lace triming on unexpected fabrics for a bit of a whimsical feeling. As I hope to add a little romance into my life and wardrobe, I’ll be looking for the perfect lace pullover.

(L to R: Alexander Wang, Balmain, Jill Sander, Marc Jacobs)

The tomboy in me loves to wear boys’ clothing, so it’s only natural that I would love this fall’s menswear inspired trend. This fall, it’s more about tailored suiting, as opposed to the relaxed boyfriend looks we’ve seen with denim this spring.

(L to R: Louis Vuitton, Prada, Paul Smith, Versus)

You don't have to be a vintage lover to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe. This fall, the sweet look of the 50's has made its way from the runways and into my heart. Many designers embracing this decade showed several updated twists to the retro and glamour style of the full circle skirt paired with a bustier or cardigan. This trend is not only feminine, but also fun and flirty.

Although you may not see me in a full length circle skirt and bustier combo, I do have a slight love affair with retro styles.

Sidebar: I'm sure DarlingDirtyDee will be all over this one!

(L to R: Chanel, Loewe, Sonia Rykiel, Isabel Marant)

Knitwear plays a huge role in fall/winter wardrobes. The obvious reason, because sweaters provide a great deal of warmth in the cold months. This fall 2010 we’re not just wearing grandma’s knits. Knitwear has gotten chunkier, bulkier and has transformed into new silhouettes and patterns.

I love a super chunky sweater that I can just layer and layer underneath. I’ll definitely be adding more of this trend into my fall 2010 wardrobe.

(L to R: Alexander McQueen, Diane von Furstenberg, Emillio Pucci, Lanvin)

Metallic had a big presence on the Fall 2010 runways. I love shiny things, so naturally I love the metallic trend. The gold brocades at Alexander Wang and the metallic lamés at DVF and Lanvin were great luxe touches.

I’ll definitely be on the look out for a fab party dress dipped in gold just in time for the holidays. New Years’ party anyone?

Now that you know what trends are on my fall 2010 must have list, what trends are on you loving and wanting to add to your list? How will you be updating your fall wardrobe? Now is the time to take inventory of your closet and fill in the holes with what’s needed to keep you looking fab this fall/winter season.

As always, keep it FAB chick.
