Trend Alert: Cut-Off Denims

A major trend this summer are cut-off denim shorts.

Some of us have been economical by sifting through our old denim jeans to recycle and recreate the look. Others of us have hit the stores in hopes of finding the perfect pair already cut and frayed.
I have done both. The pair I'm wearing above are store bought cut-offs from Zara.

I love my denim cut-offs. They are super comfy. But can we all agree that this isn’t a trend one should wear everywhere? Nor are they for everyone, especially the shorter lengths.

Although many of us can argue that we can dress them up with heels, denim cut-offs are best dressed down and worn in a relaxed environment. The retro looking trend is perfect for summer outings like trips to theme parks, walks to the ice creamery with your beau and cookouts with friends and family.

Perfect for this Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial kick-off to summer wouldn't you say?

Fab Chick Tip: When wearing denim cut-offs, make sure that they aren’t extremely tight or too short. Although you might be going a little retro, you don’t want to channel Daisy from The Dukes of Hazards. Let's keep what needs to be covered, covered! Shorts should be slightly loose.

If you’re afraid to put scissors and a razor to your favorite denims, here are a few already created that I love:

L to R: Asos $37.20, The Gap $49.50,J. Crew $79.50, Paige Premium Denim $158, Citizens Of Humanity $198

Will you be sporting cut-off denim shorts this season?

I'm a Bad Target Shopper
Are you?

How many times have you strolled into a Target store with a mental checklist of things you need to buy?

Detergent
Excedrin
Milk

You figure, it should only take you 15 minutes max to get what you need and check out.

But before you know it, you’ve spent an hour walking the aisles in a trance, practically grabbing everything in sight.

Stay Warm, Even in the Summer

I’m sure by now you’ve packed away all your sweaters and heavy knits to make way for your tanks and lightweight tops.

Well, make a little more room for some of these lightweight cardigans that are sure to make great layering pieces for the warm weather.

Yes, it gets hot and temperatures will soar past 80 degrees, but even in the middle of the summer, the weather has a tendency to call for a little something to ward off that early morning chill or late night breeze.

My recommendation: A cute lightweight cardi.

When you are out for an all day adventure, it’s a perfect piece to grab and fold into your bag with ease.

Personally, I never leave my house without a cardigan, even when it’s super hot out. You never know where you might end up. And with air conditioning, you’re liable to go from 90 to 40 in a matter of minutes. So, I suggest stocking your wardrobe with a couple of super cute, lightweight cardigans.

Here are a few super fab lightweight cardigans that I love – and that I’m sure you will too!

Sparkle & Fade $48, Loft $59.50, Left on Houston $109,Twenty8Twelve $154

And don't you love the wrap style?

7 for all Mankind $68,Slendid $77, Alice+Olivia $188, Nanette Lepore $228

Clearly I do!

My Kiss for Spring

The beauty trend forecast this spring calls for lips in shades of orange, coral, and pink. Since my wardrobe is pretty much stocked for spring, I decided to get my make-up options aligned. I’ve been craving to give my pout a coral makeover so I’m starting there.

I headed over to my favorite MAC counter to visit one of my dear friends and make-up artist to assist me with this beauty conquest. When it came to finding the right shades for achieving a nude lip, she rocked it out and now has me sporting a fab nude pout.

I knew she was the right person to help me find a coral shade I could sport confidently.
After trying lipsticks in Dressmaker, Dressmaker’ and ‘Made to Order' from the Prêt-à-Papier collection, she recommended Pro Longwear Lipstain Marker in ‘Full of Flare’ and Lipglass in ‘Fold and Tuck’.
Mission accomplished.

What do you guys think of my end result?

Summer's Coming
Are you ready to bare all?

Although the unseasonable cool temperatures here in New York City say otherwise, Memorial Day will be here in two weeks, kicking off the unofficial start of summer.

For weeks, I’ve been discussing the key must haves for spring, which by now, should have a home in your closet: Ikat tribal prints, military inspired looks, nude shades, chambray, and acid yellow to name a few.

Some of us have been in the gym all winter, while others have been hibernating on the couch. Either way, it’s time to put those bodies into something skin-baring swim wear.

How’s your swimwear and beach attire looking? If it’s lacking like mine, then it’s time to go shopping. Now!

I"ll Always Love My Mama
She's My Favorite Girl

“You think you love to wear high heels and nice shoes, please, your mom always wore sky-high heels, and WALKED in them” my aunts say every chance they get.

According to my grandmother and aunts, my mom was quite the Fab Chick back in her day on the small island of Jamaica, where my family is from. So, I guess it’s safe to say that I have inherited my love for great clothing and my instinctive flair for style from my mom.

The White Shirt
Do You Own One?

Do you own a white shirt?

I don’t mean a white t-shirt either. If not, you’re wardrobe is lacking a quintessential piece. Same on you! Don’t you know every Fab Chick should own a traditional, crisp, white button down shirt in an oxford or twill?

Let me explain.
