INDIE-SPOTLIGHT | Love Cortnie Clutches

love cortnie
Love Cortnie is a cute collection of statement clutches. I discovered the printed clutches when one of my uber-stylish friends informed me about the Etsy collection. After browsing the entire selection, of course I had a few favorites. Filled with bright colors, animal and tribal prints, the selection is definitely right on-trend. What say you of Love Cortnie? View the entire collection here.

Is there an independent designer I should check out? I'd love to put them on my radar, providing I like what I see. Let me know!

EDITOR'S LETTER | A Note From Misha
Off Cloud 9

Last week I failed to write my new weekly Editor’s Note. And for that I apologize. I’ve been soaring so high on cloud 9 that I’ve let a few daily tasks slip through the cracks. But sometimes life happens and you just have to stop, smell the roses and bask in your own happiness and excitement despite what your schedule says.

Now that I’m slowly coming down from my high, I’m realizing just how my life is about to change and move into a whole new direction of unfamiliar territory. And although I am very nervous, I ecstatically embrace the changes to come. After all, I wanted and asked for it. I definitely look forward to living the life I’ve visualized for myself. I can't wait!

Have you visualized what it is that you expect out of your life? Have you put any positive energy into your visualizations? There is so much power in wanting something, visualizing it, claiming it and having faith while working towards it. If you haven’t created a vision for yourself, whether it’s on a board, in a notebook, or with a digital source, I encourage you to do so. Set goals, have dreams and live life like the Fab Chick you are! I plan too!

PS : Just 22 days into the 2012 and I've already accomplished two things on my vision board!

GET THE LOOK | Alexander Wang vs GAP

ALEXANDER WANG Prisma leather tote-vs-GAP Leather travel tote
L to R: Alexander Wang - Prisma Tote / The Gap - Leather Tote

While online browsing shopping, I came across this vibrant Alexander Wang Prisma leather tote and immediately remembered GAP having a very similar style. They both fit the requirements of what I'm looking for in a tote bag that will transition well into spring--brightly colored, leather, and have a double handle. While I like the metal detailing on the bottom of Alexander Wang creation, I must say I love the price point with the Gap option. Which would you choose, the splurge or the steal?

EDITOR'S LETTER | A Note From Misha
Don't Worry... Be Happy!

Recently I’ve read, “Researchers have found that about forty percent of the things we worry about never happen. Thirty percent are in the past and can’t be helped. Twelve percent involve affairs of others that are not even our business. Ten percent relate to sickness, real or imagine. This leaves eight percent to be things we worry about to even likely happen!”

After reading the whole passage and taking it all in, I started to realize just how much of the day I spend worrying about things I didn’t need to concern myself with or devote energy towards. Although they may initially seem valid in my mind, ultimately many of them were things I personally have no control over. What a waste of energy? Contributing hours of my day worrying about inevitable factors of life has caused me to sometimes forget to live in the moment, smell the roses and not be afraid to just be happy for the life I’ve been given.

When you think about it, why worry when you still have your life to live? The possibilities are endless when you are still breathing. Worrying solves nothing, in fact it can make matters worse—talk about mentally and physically draining. A new goal I’ve set for myself as I enter the next phase of my life is to embrace life worry free. Will be a challenge, but I’m up for it. I think we should all just don’t worry and be happy, just as the Bobby McFerrin song encourages. And besides there are too many fabulous shoes to buy and wear, awesome people to meet and wonderful adventures to experience than to worry about things we just simply can not control.

“In every life we have some trouble,
When you worry you make it double
Don’t worry, be happy”

– Bobby McFerrin 1988 “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”

TIDBITS | Just a rainy Thursday

Outfit of the day
It's a rainy Thursday and I woke up and threw this together. I can never get enough of a chambray and leopard pairing in any combination--it's a "I don't feel like going outside in this rain but I have to like what I'm wearing" no-brainer type of mash-up. If that even makes any sense to any of you.

·belt - Nine West
·blazer - Funky Fanny's Vintage
·boots - Steven
·tights - Hue

RESORT 2012 | Visions of a Winter Getaway

Up until now, there hasn’t been much to complain about; winter has been unseasonably warm. And while we all love the warm weather, fashion-wise, a slight dip in temperature isn’t all that bad. Who doesn’t love an opportunity to layer-up a bit—cute sweaters, quilted vests, slick leather jackets—or look forward to wearing boots with strategically placed Sherpa lining and trim? But The Real Deal Holyfield of the season hits and it’s not fun anymore. Bundling up becomes more of a hassle instead of an expression of personal style.

Now that Jack Frost has officially touched down biting us all on our butts and making things a bit uncomfortable, I’m having visions of warm weather, spring anyone?

While Resort 2012 collections are currently hitting the sales floor, I’m dreaming of a winter getaway to an island where the sun is shining bright, the water is warm and I’m able to sport a neon pink pedicure for all to see. Ah! Let me wake up and stop dreaming. Time to get the gloves on and wrap this scarf extra tight.

Here are ten Resort 2012 looks I love now! Hurry Spring!

Resort 2012 Fashion Picks

1. Alexander Wang
2. A.L.C
3. BCBGMax Azria
4. DVF
5. Proenza Schouler
6. Tracy Reese
7. Dsquared2
8. Christopher Kane
9. DKNY
10. Burberry Prorsum

ON MY RADAR | Nordic & Fair Isle Prints & Knits

A few weeks ago I bought an oversized vintage Fair Isle men’s sweater. Since then, I’ve completely fallen for the brightly Nordic patterned knit. It’s definitely a great break from my everyday basic gray, black and cream sweater dressing. Basics are great, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes all you need is a little print in your life to break up the mundane quality of winter dressing.

Fair Isle and Nordic prints
1. Grey Nordic long-line jumper - Dorothy Perkins $35
2. BKE Vintage Fair Isle Hat - Buckle $30
3. Gillman Women's Down Jacket - Penfield $297
4. Nordic Sweater Bag - Need Supply Co. $68
5. The Champion Fair Isle Sneaker - Keds $55
6. Vail Knit Skirt - Nasty Gal $26
7. Pearly Fairisle Jumper - AllSaints $125
8. Intarsia chunky wool-blend cardigan - Sonia Rykiel $798
9. Fair Isle Sweater - YOHJI YAMAMOTO $439
10. Wool Fair Isle Fringed Mitten - ASOS $10

EDITOR'S LETTER | A Note From Misha
No Resolutions Just a Few Evolutions

With the arrival of the New Year, I have resolved to evolve. I’ve decided to take more responsibility in the way my life is going with the decisions I make and should make. While I didn’t create any resolutions this year, I have vowed that this will be a year of change, an evolution of sorts.

I vow not to fight progression by playing it safe. I vow to no longer reject the positive changes that should occur in my life, but rather to open up and allow them to manifest into experiences leading me to live my best life. See, I use to find comfort in the familiar, but the familiar is just that, safe. And playing it safe doesn’t evoke any growth. And no growth in my life equals an average, mediocre living. And living average is just not an option for me. That’s not a good recipe for living my best life. Nope. Not at all.

So this 2012 I encourage not only myself, but all of you to break free of mediocrity and to live an exceptional life fabulously. I’m ready to evolve, are you? Playing it safe is just not safe anymore. In fact, by playing it safe you put your happiness at risk. Life should be about happiness, adventure and moments of progression. None of which can occur if we don’t accept change and simply evolve.
