LIFE | Shopping In My 'Hood

What happens when I step outside my comfort zone and explore my neighborhood—I stumble upon all kinds of little shopping treasures. Who knew that just 2 miles north of my door step laid a shopping oasis filled with a few of my favorite contemporary designer brands, and all without having to trek to the mall. (Ohhhhhh the agita –as my Italian neighbor would put it.)   As if  I really need another reason to go shopping. Ugh. But I must say, it is super cool to know that I can take a long walk, clear my mind, pick up a cup of Jo, and shop till my wallet screams for mercy. Downtown Millburn, New Jersey you’ve been #FabChickApproved.

If you have never explored your neighborhood, I suggest doing so--you never know what gems you might find hidden right under your nose. And if you are ever in New Jersey and in the Millburn area, be sure to visit a few of the area's small boutiques for some big city flavor.

Bungalow definitely suits this inviting shop perfectly--small in stature but packs a large selection of affordable contemporary clothing and fun statement making accessories. Visually I loved how the merchandise was displayed, my favorite being a vintage typewriter used to showcase a few necklaces and bracelets. I'll definitely be back--there's a blue cropped blazer I need. Not really, but yea.  You can check them out on facebook here.

Gito is a super chic store filled with so many designers and brands I love, like Alexander Wang, Helmut Lang, Haute Hippie, Lanvin and Miu Miu.  It's the perfect one stop shop for all your super fab designer needs. I'm still dreaming about those Miu Miu Swarovski crystal-embellished pumps...Swoons! With a super friendly sales person, I wouldn't mind spending my bucks there--afterall, that gray Helmut Lang deconstructed sweater has Misha written all over it! Check out their webiste to see all the other designers they carry here.

Although I didn't have the most positive experience in the Deborah Gilbert Smith Boutique, I am still obsessing over an olive green grecian-inspired gown that was being worn by a gorgeous model. I happened to walk in while a photoshoot was happening. (Ugh, I so didn't get the dress' desginer.) But when I began to expresssed interest in the gown--as I thought the dress was in line with my vision for my bridesmaids--I was promptly shut down, "Oh no, your bridesmaids can't wear this...oh I'm referring to the price." Well oh, okay.  I guess we're judging people now. Needless to say, I was a bit underwhelmed with the way the store displayed such designers like Alexander Wang and Yigal Azrouel.  Wanna check them out--there's always Google. :-)

And then there was Jia, where I fell in love with a gray fur hooded anarok (still kicking myself for not purchasing it.  Fall is like tomorrow. Ugh) and an inspiration bracelet that I just couldn't walk out leaving--considering the last few months I've been having.  Another contemporary boutique, Jia is loaded with lots of must-have denim, Free People knits (I love Free People) and super cute jewelry you'll want to wear just because.  Thanks Jia for the reminder that Life is A Journey, Not A Desitination.  You can visit their website here.
