Have you put away your shorts yet? I hope you didn't. If so you might want to take those suckers right back out. Or you might even want to continue to buy them for this fall/winter season. No, we're not crazy. Wearing shorts only for the warm season are a thing of the past. Fall 09 runways showed us that shorts can be worn fashionably going forward for the cold months.

Here are a few tips to successfully winterize your shorts for the cold months.

Pair them with tight and/or leggings. It might not be wise to go out in 50 and below degree weather with just bare legs. Tights and legging will not only provide you with warmth, but it will always add a bit of flare to your outfit. For fun go with something patterned, knitted, ribbed, or colorful. And if you aren't feeling risky, black always works.

Although shorts are typically a spring/summer item, it is best to not wear your spring/summer footwear. Booties, high boots or even chunky heels work best.

Choose shorts fabrics of heavier weights and fall/winter-like colors. Fabrics that are thicker and heavier will also provided a little warmth and will couple well with sweaters and heavier jackets.

Keep shorts length between upper thigh to right about the knee to create an illusion of long lean legs. Anything too long especially paired with high boots can make you look short and stumpy. Too short of a length doesn't work that well either. Please, no channelling Daisy Dukes.

So give you skirts and pants a little break and keep it fab in a pair of shorts for the fall/winter season.
